Reduction Actions

Reduction Actions

The Actions section in scoped helps you plan, track, and visualize your emissions reduction pathway. Define targets, add planned actions, model scenarios, and monitor your trajectory toward your climate goals.

Action Plan

The action plan is organized as a Kanban board with three columns:

ColumnDescription
PlannedActions that have been identified but not yet started
In ProgressActions currently being implemented
CompletedActions that have been finished

You can drag and drop actions between columns as their status changes. Each action card shows the action name, expected reduction, timeline, and current status.

Adding Actions

There are two ways to add actions to your plan:

From the Action Library

The Action Library sidebar provides a curated set of pre-built action templates organized by category. Templates include:

  • Typical reduction potential (percentage or absolute)
  • Applicable scopes and categories
  • Implementation guidance

Browse the library, select a template, and customize it for your organization.

Custom Actions

If none of the templates fit, you can create a custom action from scratch:

FieldDescription
NameName of the action
CategoryWhich emission category this action targets
Start yearWhen implementation begins
End yearWhen the action reaches full effect
ScaleImplementation scale (0–100%) — how broadly the action is applied
Custom reductionExpected emissions reduction (tCO₂e per year)
NotesImplementation details, responsible team, budget, etc.

Action Visibility

Each action can be marked as public or private:

  • Public actions are visible on your Public Widget (if enabled)
  • Private actions are only visible to your organization

Targets

Targets define your emissions reduction goals. Navigate to ActionsTrajectory to set and manage targets.

Target Types

scoped supports three target-setting methods:

MethodDescription
Absolute ReductionReduce total emissions by a fixed percentage from the base year
Intensity-BasedReduce emissions relative to a business metric (e.g., tCO₂e per EUR revenue)
SBTi-AlignedTarget aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative methodology

Target Configuration

FieldDescription
Base yearThe reference year for the target
Target yearThe year by which the target should be achieved
Scopes coveredWhich scopes the target applies to (Scope 1, 2, 3, or a combination)
Reduction percentageThe target reduction from the base year
Baseline emissionsTotal emissions in the base year (calculated automatically)
Target emissionsThe allowed emissions in the target year
StandardThe standard this target follows (e.g., SBTi, GHG Protocol)

You can set multiple targets — for example, a near-term SBTi target for Scope 1 & 2, and a separate long-term target that includes Scope 3.

Emissions Trajectory

The Trajectory view shows how your emissions are projected to change over time, based on your current actions and targets.

What the Chart Shows

  • Baseline — Your base year emissions (the starting point)
  • Business-as-usual (BAU) — Projected emissions if no actions are taken
  • Planned trajectory — Projected emissions after applying all planned and in-progress actions
  • Target line — Your reduction target
  • Action wedges — The contribution of each individual action to the overall reduction

Gap to Target

scoped calculates the gap between your planned trajectory and your target. This helps you understand:

  • Whether your current actions are sufficient to meet your target
  • How much additional reduction is needed
  • Which time periods need the most attention

On-Track Indicator

A clear indicator shows whether your organization is on track to meet its target based on the current action plan. This same indicator is shown on the Public Widget if enabled.

Scenarios

You can model different reduction scenarios by adjusting:

  • Which actions are included or excluded
  • The scale of each action (e.g., 50% vs 100% implementation)
  • The timeline (start and end years)

This allows you to compare pathways — for example, an "ambitious" scenario versus a "conservative" one — and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
